Forged in Faith. Formed in Purpose. Found in Community.

What Is The Foundry Project?

The CrossRoads Gap Year Program, called The Foundry Project, is a Christ-centered gap year experience designed for young adults ages 17–early 20s. Through intentional community, hands-on work experience, and spiritual mentorship, participants grow in faith, develop professional skills, and explore God’s calling for their lives.

Why Choose a Christian Gap Year Program?

Many students finish high school or are in college and unsure of their next step. A faith-based gap year gives young adults the space to slow down, deepen their walk with Christ, and gain real-world experience before entering college, the workforce, or ministry. The Foundry Project equips participants for life beyond the classroom through mentorship, skill-building, and spiritual formation.

Program Duration & Structure

The Foundry Project runs from Labor Day through Memorial Day. After completing the program, participants may continue as summer staff or join the Leadership Team at CrossRoads Camp & Conference Center.

HANDS-ON WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Participants gain 10–15 hours per week of real-world training by rotating through:

    • Kitchen & Food Service

    • Maintenance & Facilities

    • Housekeeping

    • Guest Hosting & Hospitality

    • Office & Administrative Management

This diverse work experience prepares young adults with practical skills for future careers and service opportunities.

Flexibility for Education & Career Discernment

  • Participants are encouraged to pursue online courses, local classes, or part-time jobs while committing to their responsibilities at CrossRoads. This flexibility allows students to explore career paths while staying rooted in Christian discipleship.

Spiritual Growth & Mentorship

  • Faith formation is central to The Foundry Project. Participants engage in:

    • Weekly group Bible study

    • One-on-one mentorship with staff and community members

    • Bi-weekly professional workshops (leadership, financial literacy, conflict resolution)

    • Spiritual retreat trips

This combination of learning and reflection encourages spiritual maturity and clarity of calling.

Service & Kingdom Impact

  • Make a difference by serving others through hospitality, retreat hosting, and community engagement. Each experience helps you see how your gifts can be used for God’s Kingdom, leaving a lasting impact both at CrossRoads and beyond.

Intentional Christian Community

  • Living together in dorm-style housing, participants build meaningful friendships and practice shared rhythms of faith and life. With shared meals, community discussions, and accountability, young adults learn what it means to live and grow in Christian community.
